State of North Carolina Cumberland County Know all men by these presents that I, Jacob Matthews, for and in consideration of the natural love and affection I have and do bear unto my beloved son Ica Matthews and for various good causes me hereunto moving have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto him the said Ica Matthews a cer tain tract or parcel of Land lying & being in the said County & State aforesaid and on the East side of Beres Crick Beginning at the Run of said Creek below the Mill and running South twenty two chains to a pine Stump in McLean's line then as McLean's line North twenty nine East twenty eight chains to a pine McLean's corner then as McLean 's line South sixty one East thirty five chains venty five links to a stake in Shaws line thence North two chains to a pine Shaw's corner then East thirteen chains forty five links to a stake in Shaws corner of Two hundred acres thence North three East thirty eight chains & sixty links to a pine Shaws corner thence East twenty two chains to a Pine in Shaw 's line thence North one East nine chains & a half to a Sweet Gun thence West eight chains & forty links to a pine thence North thirty six chains & seventy five links to a stake thence North eighty nine West thirty four chains twenty links to a pine thence North one East fifty one chains to a stake then North eighty nine West to the Run of said Creek then with the run of said Creek to the beginning . To have and to hold the above granted property unto the said Sed Matthews excepting a privilege to his Brother Reuben Matthews of sawing his Timber at times when I can is not sawing himself at the Saw Mill that is on Jed 's side of said Mill pond as long as said Mill stand or said Reuben Matthews lives free from paying the said Ica any consideration whatever for said priviledge only to help the said Ira keep up the said Mill dam and if the said Ica Matthews should die without an heir for the above property to be his Brother Reuben Matthews freely and clearly to be and continue as a free gift of me the said Jacob Matthews un to the said Ira Matthews with the exception of what Timber I please to make use of my life time his heirs executors & administrators forever in fee simple with all and singular of the appurtenances to the above premises belonging or in any wise appertaining . In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 31st day of August 1836 . Signed sealed & delivered in presence of Jacob Matthews
